Paper is one of the starting points of Enoki’s practice — a nexus bringing together thoughts, ideas, and an understanding of the world. For years, she has made daily “drawings” on different papers using monotype, producing random colours and shapes that vary with the texture of each sheet. Some sheets have been kept for months or even years. In Bound, these accumulated sheets are reconsidered as a chronicle of thoughts and feelings. Accumulated sheets are brought into relation through layering, binding, and sequence. In works such as Bound (Correspondence), facing pages correspond with one another, and the act of turning the pages allows the image to continue and expand. The title began with the literal sense of sheets being bound together, while also opening onto the idea of moving beyond a boundary.
